Rep. Mike Lawler is leading a push that would codify a stricter definition antisemitism in the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

He was joined by 13 Democratic co-sponsors for the new law that would adopt the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance's definition of antisemitism.

Schools that don't comply in the Hudson Valley and around the nation could risk losing federal funding.

While some opponents of the bill have concerns around free speech, Lawler says this is an important step to protect Jewish students who feel under attack.

The House Rules Committee advanced the bipartisan bill Monday night in a 7-4 vote. A full House vote is expected Wednesday.
