Rep. Jim Himes (D - 4th) is speaking out about the potential federal government shutdown, emphasizing the severe consequences it would have on the American public.
According to Himes, a government shutdown would mean that soldiers and TSA personnel wouldn't get paid, social security sign-ups would be halted, and national parks would close.
Himes stated, "Let's be very clear, a government shutdown means that soldiers don't get paid, TSA personnel in our airports don't get paid, you can't sign up for social security, all the national parks close at a time that people are taking vacations, this creates a huge amount of anxiety and fear and problems for the American public."
This comes after the House voted down a Trump-backed proposal, following the president-elect's role in tanking a larger spending bill negotiated between both parties.
A government shutdown could happen at midnight if Congress fails to pass a new spending bill or continuing resolution.
