Today is a day of mourning, remembrance and honor after the Happy Land nightclub fire claimed the life of 87 people.
The club was set on fire as an act of arson by Julio Gonzalez. He set the fire after he got into a fight with his girlfriend who worked there.
Many of the victims were Hondurans who came out to celebrate Carnaval.
The nightclub had a number of fire code violations, and in turn the department of buildings cracked down in illegal social clubs across the New York City.
Gonzalez was sentenced to 25 years in prison for multiple counts of murder.
A vigil will be held tonight at the memorial after a mass at St. Thomas Aquinas Church.
