And here's what you need to know today. It marks a somber 35 years now since a horrific tragedy happened at a club in West Farms. A vigil's gonna be held over at Saint Thomas Aquinas Church later tonight to honor those lost in the Happy Land Club fire. Newswell's Brittany Cadett joins us now from where that vigil's gonna be held with more Brittany. Yeah, Kirstie, today is just a day of mourning, remembering and honoring those 87 lives that were lost at the Happy Land nightclub 35 years ago. Now here at the memorial across the street from where that tragedy happened remains a pillar of the 87 names of those lives that were lost again. 35 years ago, the club was set on fire in an act of arson by Julio Gonzalez after he got into an argument with his girlfriend who worked there. 87 people were trapped inside and died, most of them young, with much life left to live. Many of the victims Hondurans who came out to celebrate Carnival. The club had a number of fire code violations and in turn the Department of Buildings cracked down on illegal social clubs across the city. At last year's vigil, we spoke to victims' family members who expressed raw emotion about losing their loved ones. I feel sorry because Lara Honduras is supposed to be over here today. I'm feeling sorry about my other people of my country that's supposed to be over here today. And later tonight, a mass will be held over at the Saint Thomas Aquinas Church, followed by a vigil at the memorial across the street from where that tragedy happened 35 years ago today.
