The Willows at Ramapo says it has six confirmed cases of COVID-19.
"Given the ongoing cold and flu season, we are taking all necessary precautions to ensure patient and staff safety," said the rehabilitation and nursing center's leadership in an email to News 12 on Monday. "We are committed to transparency and following local health guidelines."
Someone with a loved one at the facility on Cragmere Road in Suffern reached out to News 12 because they felt the public should know about the cases.
Signs on the front entrance door to the facility let employees and visitors know they are "experiencing a high incidence of COVID," "face mask is highly encouraged," and "do not visit if sick."
When News 12's Diane Caruso went inside to speak to someone, her temperature was taken and she filled out a COVID-19 questionnaire about symptoms. One question included "I was told the facility is in an outbreak and was educated on the potential for getting infected with COVID-19 while visiting."
The Rockland County government says they are aware of the situation and have contacted the state's Department of Health which has jurisdiction over nursing homes.
The state department said in a statement, “safeguarding the health and wellbeing of nursing home residents is of the highest concern. That’s why when the facility reported the outbreak we assessed the situation and are in communication with the facility to ensure they are following CDC guidance for preventing transmission of the disease.”
