Police say one person is dead after a house fire in Monroe early Sunday morning.

Authorities say the fire had already burned through the roof by the time crews responded to the scene on Tulip Lane.

A woman and four children escaped, but one person who was stuck inside died from their injuries.

Police had not identified that person as of Sunday night.

The Red Cross said it's helping everyone who was displaced.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known as of Sunday night.
