WEATHER ALERT: A TORNADO WATCH has been issued for parts of Tornado Watch Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Mercer, Monmouth, Ocean and Salem counties midnight.
There is a strong chance that the storms that are forecasted to move through later tonight could approach severe limits. The Storm Prediction Center has raised the threat level on a scale of 1 to 5 to a 2. This is significant for New Jersey. The atmosphere is also showing signs of winds changing direction with height. This is an indicator that there may be rotation when storms pass and a tornado can't be ruled out of the forecast for tonight.
Timing: Now through 1 a.m.
What to Expect: Drenching rains, damaging winds, hail and a possible tornado.
When will it be over? The threat will wind down after 12-1 a.m. Saturday morning. Please be extra cautious tonight. If any warnings are issued please take them very seriously and get to a safe shelter immediately.
Saturday is an OK day. Aside from a lingering sprinkle early Saturday morning, clouds and sun share the sky. The winds become westerly and the majority of the day is quiet. We will need to become more weather aware after 2 p.m. Scattered storms will once again pop up. They probably won’t be as severe as what we are expecting tonight, but storms that could be dangerous with lightning nonetheless.
Sunday looks great. Breezy and drier with more sunshine.
