Kareem McCalla, 36, is in custody, after he turned himself in for the fatal stabbing of 41-year-old Alvin Francis on a J90 shuttle bus.
He’s charged with murder in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon.
Prosecutors said McCalla told Francis to move his backpack off the seat next to him so McCalla could sit, but when the suspect felt that still wasn’t enough space—he stabbed him multiple times.
Francis, who is being remembered as a great father, husband, and friend to many— later died at the hospital.
McCalla is expected to be in court again later this month but was held on a $250,000 bail.
He also has a criminal history, with his latest arrest in 2019 for assault. A judge at his hearing also reiterated that McCalla has had a history of not showing up for his court appearances.
