A deputy of the Putnam County sheriff's office is in the hospital after being hit by a car during an investigation in Southeast.
Officials say it happened just after 8:30 p.m. on Monday on Sodom Road when a suspect's vehicle tried to flee the scene and struck the deputy.
Despite being injured, the deputy fired at the vehicle, injuring the suspect.
The deputy was taken to a nearby hospital, and the suspect was taken to another hospital. The area was shut down until well past midnight.
The sheriff's office says New York State Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
