A Putnam County family says their loved one was one of the newest Israeli hostages to be released by Hamas. Gadi Moses, 80, was released by Hamas on Thursday.

He's the brother-in-law of Shaule Naor, a man who splits his residence between Mahopac and Brooklyn.

Naor shared with News 12 how his loved one has been doing since his release.

"He got very skinny, and weak and frail, but thank God, he survived well," Naor said.

Members of Putnam County's Jewish community, like Rabbi Avi Korer, also celebrated Moses' freedom.

"Our hearts are overfilled with joy and we're so grateful that Gadi Moses, together with the other hostages, were released from the captivity of Hamas," Korer said.

The rabbi said this release is proof of the power of prayer.

"Today is 483 days that we're praying every single day and we really believe that prayer works," Korer said.

The rabbi said members of the Chabad of Putnam will now continue to advocate for the release of the rest of the hostages.
