A shooting in the Bayville section of Berkeley Township has left a husband and wife in critical condition, and the shooter, John Adamo, dead after a police standoff on Monday.

According to prosecutors, Adamo opened fire on his next-door neighbors, shooting a man outside his home and the man's wife while she was inside.

A standoff ensued between police and Adamo, ending with police blowing up the front door and finding Adamo dead in a bathroom from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Neighbors report a long-running dispute between the two homeowners, with police being called to the home multiple times.

The victims are described as prominent members of the community, and neighbors said they were stunned by the violence.
