A Mount Olive day care teacher is facing several charges after an alleged assault on a 16-month-old girl in her care.

The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office announced the charges Wednesday afternoon but did not release many details.

Christina Susco, 38, of Budd Lake, has been charged with second-degree endangering the welfare of a child and third-degree aggravated assault. It’s alleged that the now-former teacher assaulted the child on March 25.

News 12 reached out to the Mount Olive Child Care & Learning Center for more information. Executive director Gail Reuther told News 12 in a statement that the day care is aware that there was an incident but they don’t know exactly what happened.

"This is an isolated and distressing incident, and we are shocked and embarrassed that this occurred at our Center, which has a 47-year history of service to the community and quality services to the children and families…Please be assured that we took immediate action to ensure consistent safety and care for all the children in the Center,” Reuther wrote.

The learning center has visible cameras outside the building and according to the executive director, there’s video monitoring throughout the school. She says they provide frequent supervision for all staff.
