Councilmember Lincoln Restler proposed capping the price of Citi Bikes to make them more accessible.

The new bill would cap the cost of Citi Bikes at $2.90 for up to a one-hour ride on e-bikes and two-hour rides on regular bikes. The Citi Bike's website shows a single ride now costs $4.79 to unlock, and after 30 minutes it's 0.36 cents a minute.

Community members News 12 spoke to say it would make a difference and even be more of an incentive to use Citi Bikes as a form of transportation.

Citi Bike discount programs are currently available to NYCHA residents and SNAP benefit users, due to the city's contract with the company.

Negotiations regarding Restler's proposed bill would not go into effect until 2029.
