Northeast Elementary School held its first pre-K prom in Amityville on Thursday.

The preschoolers were able to get their family photo taken, dance to music from a DJ on a glow-in-the-dark dancefloor and enjoy refreshments.

"People always question why do we do it now? But it's a journey, right? And we strongly believe that every step of the journey needs to be celebrated, starting with pre-K because we are working towards that graduation in 12 years," said Northeast Elementary School Principal Pauline Collins.

Students also created homemade corsages.
