Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is reportedly backing down on a plan to convert a massive warehouse into a detention center in Roxbury. The New York Times reported that Homeland Security is planning to get rid of multiple warehouses across the country that are meant to serve as ICE jails. A Department of Homeland Security spokesperson says the goal is to use "existing" detention facilities instead. The state and the Town of Roxbury fought the opening of the new facility in court, arguing it would strain local resources.
