Law enforcement officials say they found pounds of drugs inside a private membership church located in Fieldston.
The church is located near West 238th Street and Greystone Avenue. Khensv Bvildr claims to be a private Kemetic church. It calls itself the first African-administered church of cannabis.
On March 11, police say a routine inspection inside the church led to the discovery of drugs and the arrest of 41-year-old Christopher McCray.
The New York City Sheriff's Office confirmed to News 12 that several pounds of marijuana and psilocybin mushrooms were among the drugs confiscated.
"I was just a little surprised to see a private church that wasn't there the last time I walked by. So I'm just curious," said one neighbor named Yvonne.
Alleged churchgoers who were leaving the business refused to answer questions about what type of activity was happening inside when asked by a News 12 crew.
"A church is important within the community. So when you hear things like that, things start going off in your head," said another neighbor named Norman.
Meanwhile, a manager at a neighboring cafe said they were not worried, adding, "They are really good people...Good energy, good people. We need them."
A person at the business opened the door for the News 12 crew but refused to comment.
