Police are warning drivers about a rise in thefts targeting specific car parts from Honda and Acura vehicles.
Authorities in Clifton say thieves are stealing airbags and vehicle sensor modules because of their high value.
Police say the crimes can happen in seconds by experienced offenders.
In Teaneck, officers recently arrested two suspects on June 21 who were found with multiple sensor modules taken from a Honda.
Investigators say the suspects also had wallets and other personal belongings believed to be stolen. Officials say the targeted sensors are often located in the grille area behind the vehicle’s emblem.
Police are urging drivers to take precautions to avoid becoming victims.
They recommend keeping vehicles locked and using a steering wheel lock as an added layer of protection.
Officials also suggest aftermarket covers for sensors to help deter thieves.
