First responders are continuing their search and rescue efforts for a man who jumped into Coney Island waters and never resurfaced.
Police say a man jumped off the Steeplechase Pier Wednesday afternoon into the cold water and has been missing since. First responders and divers scoured the water for hours after, but their search has been unsuccessful so far.
The current water temperature is in the low- to mid-50s. The National Weather Service says being in water this cold, even just for a few seconds, can cause mental confusion and loss of bodily control.
All beaches are still closed through Memorial Day.
