Suffolk County police say they arrested a Bellport teenager for driving while ability impaired by drugs for a crash involving an oil truck on the Long Island Expressway.
They say 19-year-old Austin Richuitti was driving a 2011 Cadillac westbound near Exit 69 at a high rate of speed when the vehicle hit the back of the oil truck in Manorville. The impact caused the truck to overturn into a wooded area.
Richuitti and the driver of the oil truck, 24-year-old Timothy Abruzzo, of Kings Park, were transported via helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital in stable condition.
Richuitti was charged with DWAI by drugs, reckless endangerment and reckless driving. He will be arraigned at a later date.
News 12 spoke with a business owner on Wading River Road, not far from the scene of the crash.
"I heard the sirens and I saw a lot of first responders going to the scene...I saw the cops running and a whole bunch of traffic started accumulating," said Matthew Hitta.
