Woolwich Township police have released body camera video showing the nerve-wracking rescue of a boy who fell through the ice on a frozen pond.

The call to police came Sunday evening when a concerned resident heard the boy's screams coming from the pond.

Responding officers threw a rope out to the victim, but his hands were too cold to hold on to it while they attempted to pull him out, according to police.

Woolwich Police Sgt. Joseph Rieger crawled onto the ice to reach the boy, but when he attempted to pull him out, the ice gave way under their combined weight.

Cpl. Steve Spithaler and Patrolman Michael Scambia can be seen immediately entering the icy pond to rush to their aid.

The officers managed to exit the pond with the boy safely and with no injuries.

On Wednesday morning, the boy visited the Woolwich Township Police Department with his mother to thank the officers involved in his rescue and surprise them with lunch.
