This is a 12 special report. I'm Marcy Jones. Breaking news just coming into our newsroom out of Brownsville now. A police investigation is underway after reports of shots fired. Now we're told it happened on Thomas Boylan Street between Hedgeman Avenue and Linden Boulevard. Citizen A video shows 3 people being escorted out of a building in handcuffs. This is a very fluid situation, but here's what we've been seeing so far 3 people. out in handcuffs, all appearing to be male. There still may be somebody inside of that building that they've been focusing all of their efforts on because officers were just seen walking in with shotguns shortly before a woman with a baby wrapped in a blanket was escorted out of the building by police officers. Now a few notes, officers fired 3 shots into the first floor window closest to the door after they flew a drone inside. Likely to determine where the remaining suspect or suspects possibly work. Two armored trucks are on site with a K-9 unit as well, and it's a very heavy police presence now. At least 20 officers, probably even more. The entire block and side street appears to be closed off now. Now we do have news 12 people on their way. We've got Tim Hartin on the way as well as Karina Gary. But again, if you're just joining us, here's what we're seeing on the ground now. We're gonna be heading to Amelia Robbins right now. Amelia, what are you seeing? All right, so I'm on the scene. I'm seeing at least a dozen FDNY ambulances as well as police cars and more are arriving. If you're coming down, Lindon Boulevard is completely blocked off, so we're here on Hegerman and Thomas Boylan. I'm also seeing the bedside volunteer Ambulance Corps here lending their hand, but it's completely blocked off. And just is right behind Brookdale Hospital, so that is also blocked off anyone going inside that area. You'll probably have to go all the way around, park your car somewhere and walk around. So I'm walking down a little bit more. I'm seeing more police lining up and there's a helicopter. I don't know if you can hear it, roving right above the scene here. This seems like an all hands on deck operation. Amelia, what is the feeling like right now in the neighborhood? Is everybody just stopping in their tracks, seeing what's going on? Yeah, Marcie, everyone's stopping in their tracks. Every everybody's trying to figure out what's going on. A lot of people coming out obviously in their house closed. This is a really crazy morning for them, so they're trying to figure out what to do, if they should go back inside, if they should just be mindful. There's also a few schools in this area, in this vicinity, so they're probably trying to also figure out that they should continue walking down Lindon or where they should go. So people are still trying to understand what's happening here. And Amelia, as far as the agencies out there, can you tell us a little bit more about the types of law enforcement officers we're seeing working together? Yes, I'm seeing a lot of detectives here. I'm seeing one SWAT car from my angle where I am, but a lot of FDNY trucks, ambulance right on standby in case of anything, and we see that those officers are still going in and out of that building. Are you hearing? Anything out of the ordinary coming from that building right now just more concerns from the residents. They're trying to understand how this could have happened all this morning so early in the morning, especially. Absolutely. Well, thank you so much, Amelia. You stay safe and we're going to check back in with you in just a little bit. Alright, thank you. So if you're just joining us right now, we're going to reiterate what is happening right now. This is breaking news just into our newsroom. Thomas Boylan Street between Hedgeman Avenue and Linden Boulevard. This is where police officers, dozens of them, are focusing their efforts at a building. Citizen video shows that 3 people were escorted out of that building that they're focusing on in handcuffs. Again, this is a Fluid situation. It's time to collect the dots, not connect them. We're seeing 3 people again brought out in handcuffs, all appearing to be male. There may still be someone or a few people inside of that building because we did see officers going in armed with shotguns shortly before all of that, a woman with a baby wrapped in a blanket. Escorted out of the building by officers. We're working to get more details on who that person was. Officers fired at least 3 shots into the first floor window that was closest to the door after they flew a drone inside, which definitely was to find out if there were any more suspects left in that building, how many that they're working with, and exactly. If they were armed or not, 2 armored trucks are also on site with K-9 units, so they had dogs on the ground collecting as much information as possible. There's also heavy police presence. At least 20 officers were thinking more because that's kind of on the conservative side. The entire block and side streets are closed off at this time, and we just heard from Amelia Rawlins that lots of pedestrians on the street are kind of stopped in their tracks because this is so early in the morning. Lots of people are working to drop their kids off at daycare or work. So this is obviously a very chaotic way to start off your Monday morning. Let's head back out with Amelia Rollins on the street. Amelia, what are you seeing now? All right, I'm still over on Hegerman and Amboy now. I'm seeing where more police are showing up. Uh, they're trying to get their bearings and trying to figure out, uh, which entrance to kind of go on. I'm right near a parking lot, the parking lot to the hospital. More and more people are starting to come out. There's also bus. being diverted down the other way because they cannot go down Linden Boulevard right now. So this is really impacting a lot of pedestrians morning commute. This is also something that you just don't expect to see this early in the morning, Amelia. Yeah, there's so many stores over here that have not even opened yet. So when they're getting here a little later to open their stores, there's gonna be quite an impact um trying to get in here, um, especially if you live here, if you're working, um, if you work at the hospital, especially, it's, it's gonna be a big impact going on. Yes, you were talking about buses in the area being diverted. That's obviously going to have a huge impact on people's commutes either to drop their kids off or to go to work. As far as neighbors in the area go, were you able to overhear anything that they're saying? I mean, I'm sure people are really shaken up right now. People are really shaken up. Some are saying that they're hearing that it was obviously a police involved shooting. They're unclear about how many or who was shot, but we are seeing some of the ambulance going behind the tape now and looking like they're bringing out some stretchers as well.
