Investigators from the New Jersey State Police spent part of Tuesday morning gathering evidence at Trenton City Hall following reports of alleged misconduct by a former employee. “The City of Trenton became aware this morning that members of the New Jersey State Police were at City Hall in connection with an investigation involving alleged misconduct by a former City employee,” Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora said in a statement. Gusciora said the allegations came to light in 2024 and involved an employee in the city's Housing and Economic Development Department. "The employee separated from city employment in 2024, and the city referred the matter and its findings to the Attorney General’s Office for further investigation and any action deemed appropriate," the mayor said. City officials said Trenton is fully cooperating with the investigation.

“This Administration has zero tolerance for misconduct or violations of the public trust,” Gusciora said. “When credible allegations of wrongdoing come to our attention, we investigate them and, where appropriate, refer the matter to the proper law enforcement authorities. That is exactly what the city did here.”

The NJ Attorney General's Office confirmed the investigation in a statement to News 12. "Earlier this morning, detectives with the New Jersey State Police, in conjunction with DCJ/OPIA, conducted a search of Trenton’s Division of Inspections and Department of Housing and Economic Development," the office said. "No further information will be made available as the investigation is ongoing."

The Attorney General's Office asked that anyone with "information about potential corruption" call the state’s toll-free tip line at 1-844-674-2847.
