Police say a man operating a moped was killed in an early Sunday morning crash in Norwalk.
A man riding a moped was struck by a car and later died early Sunday morning at Norwalk Hospital, police say.
The crash happened at the intersection of West Avenue and Reed Street.
Police say 52-year-old Jose Olavarria of Norwalk was struck just before 4 a.m. in what has been described as a dangerous intersection.
"That's sad. We have to be aware out here of one another," said Chyretta Robinson, from Norwalk.
"That is a busy intersection in our city because of the mall, the restaurants, the nightlife," said Norwalk Police Lt Tom Podgorski.
Police say the driver stayed at the scene and appears to be cooperating with the investigation. Police were on the scene Sunday with their crash reconstruction unit.
"Officers are working now reviewing surveillance footage, interviewing witnesses for all aspects of the investigation," said Podgorski.
Olivarria's Facebook page says he was a snowplow driver and was a graduate of Harding High School. A friend posted: "Rest easy my friend. You'll be missed. Way too soon."
Police are urging anyone with information about the crash to call 203-854-3035 or 203-854-3111. Anonymous tips can be sent to the Norwalk police website.
