Harriman police say a man who barricaded himself for hours inside a home in Monroe Tuesday morning has been arrested for threatening his father with a knife.
The incident happened on Snoop Street and prompted a large police response from multiple agencies for hours that could be seen along Route 17M.
Police say 34-year-old Daniel Kochovos threatened to stab his 70-year-old father, who then grabbed a shotgun in self-defense. Authorities say the gun wasn’t used and that the victim was safely removed from the house.
Both father and son lived in the home, according to officials.
Kochovos was eventually taken into custody, arrested and released on an appearance ticket.
He’s charged with endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person and obstruction of governmental administration and is due in Village of Harriman Court in April.
