Police are now investigating the cause of death of a man found floating and unresponsive off the coast of Coney Island Creek near Seagate around 9:44 a.m. Thursday.
NYPD Harbormaster Units located the body.
EMS pronounced the man dead at the scene. His body was transferred to the Office of the Medical Examiner to determine how he died.
The discovery marks the third time this month that a body has been found in the water.
"It's disturbing, it's like a cliche you would expect from a crime drama," said beachgoer Lisa.
News 12 reached out to Mike Bulzomi, of Sea Travelers Marina, who called in the discovery of a suspicious body near his businesses in Mill Basin last week to see if the tides could be a factor.
"The problem is people go up to their knees, they keep walking, and a tide can take them- and they cannot swim, he said, adding that he does not believe that's what happened with the body he discovered. "I don't think it was the tides. It looked like someone tried to get rid of him. He was floating in the water inside of three inner tubes, and he was upside down."
Bulzom says he is always recommending those heading out on the water from his marina to have floatation vests, communications and all their safety equipment before heading out.
Residents of the nearby Seagate neighborhood tell News 12, the beach typically has calmer waters, with fisherman waist deep in the waters, and seniors swimming, despite it being banned.
"Every day, I see people in the water fishing, and the old men here are swimming," said resident Edurd.
FDNY and NYPD boats were observed patrolling off the coast of the beach throughout the day Thursday, though police would not confirm what they were searching for, adding they do not believe the three bodies washing on shore to be connected cases.
