Police say a driver was killed in a three-car crash in Centereach on Thursday.
It happened on Nicolls Road, near the intersection of Mark Tree Road.
"My wife was crying. There were people everywhere. It was just a bad scene, happens here all the time," said Mark Steele, of Centereach.
Steele says once he saw the multicar crash, he ran to the phone to call 911.
“Heard a large crash, went upstairs, looked at my second-floor window. One car was rolled over, smoke was coming out of the other little black car," said Steele.
Police say at 7:40 a.m., a person driving a Honda Pilot south on Nicolls Road crossed into the northbound lanes and crashed into a Buick Encore, which then side-swiped a Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Police say the driver of the Honda was killed.
The driver of the Buick, 28-year-old Arielle Klopis, of West Islip, was taken to the hospital for injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
The driver of the Jeep, 28-year-old Nicolas Braccio, of Merrick, was not hurt.
Steele says crashes happen there all too often.
"Probably in the last six months, two major accidents at Nicolls Road and Mark Tree," he said.
Steele says he sees drivers in the area usually going way too fast.
"It's going to happen again unfortunately," he said.
Police have released the name of the driver who was killed.
