Police chiefs rallied at the state Capitol in Hartford on Tuesday to demand stricter penalties for street takeovers.
They are urging lawmakers to grant permission to seize and sell suspects' vehicles, arguing current measures fall short.
New Haven Police Chief Karl Jacobson highlighted the violence tied to these incidents, stating, "There have been four shootings in New Haven related to street takeovers, and we've seized three guns during arrests for street takeovers."
Cities and towns can now issue fines for such events, but chiefs say this isn't enough to deter participants.
