An early morning police chase prompted a lockout at a New Rochelle elementary school.
Video shared with News 12 shows a suspect running across a field near Trinity Elementary School as police officers pursue the individual.
According to school officials, the incident began shortly before 9 a.m. when New York State Police troopers were involved in a high-speed chase on Interstate 95. The chase ended near the school, where the suspect fled on foot through a wooded area new school grounds.
At the time, Trinity kindergarten students and their families were outside participating in a field day event. School officials quickly brought everyone inside and placed the building into a lock out, meaning no one could enter or exit.
The suspect was safely taken into custody.
In a statement, the district said no students, staff, or families were involved or harmed and all are safe. The field day resumed after the situation was resolved.
State police have not yet released additional details.
