Police: 15-year-old student stabbed in Mount Vernon High School; suspect arrested

A 16-year-old stabbed the 15-year-old multiple times just before dismissal, according to the school district.

A 15-year-old male student is in stable condition after a stabbing at Mount Vernon High School Thursday afternoon.
Mount Vernon police responded to the scene around 2:45 p.m.
A 16-year-old stabbed the 15-year-old multiple times just before dismissal, according to the school district.
The victim was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center.
The 16-year-old was arrested at the scene.
School officials say it started as a physical altercation.
The entire incident forced the school to go into a temporary lockout.
One student who lives close by told News 12 he was already home for the day when suddenly, he heard numerous police sirens heading to the school.
A motive for the stabbing was not immediately clear.
There was no word from the school district as of Thursday night if it would implement any extra security precautions for the school day on Friday.
New 12 also reached out to Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard's office but had not heard back as of Thursday night.
