A Point Pleasant Borough man has been indicted on charges of possessing and distributing child sexual abuse material, including nude images of children that prosecutors say appear to have been taken by cameras in children’s bedrooms.

John Olson, 44, was indicted Sept. 9 on one count of distribution of child sexual abuse material, four counts of manufacturing child sexual abuse material and one count of possession, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.

The investigation began after the New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force received a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about someone sending and receiving images of child sexual abuse material online.

Prosecutors said investigators traced an IP address to a Point Pleasant Borough home and later found an image of child sexual abuse material that Olson allegedly uploaded and sent through a Kik Messenger account.

Authorities searched Olson’s home on Aug. 22, 2025, and seized several electronic devices. Prosecutors said the home had previously served as a foster home and had cameras in children’s bedrooms.

Olson was initially charged with distribution and possession of child sexual abuse material. Prosecutors said an examination of the seized devices found nude images of children on Olson’s cellphone that appeared to have been taken by the bedroom cameras. Prosecutors charged him with additional offenses on Aug. 28, 2025.
