Passengers on a United flight headed to Newark Airport from Los Angeles had to make an emergency landing Monday afternoon.
United is saying the pilot reported an engine fire shortly after off.
Passengers had to use emergency slides once the plane landed safely back on the ground at LAX.
The over 250 people on board were able to get off safely around 2:30 p.m. Monday afternoon.
Passengers were able to get on another flight to Newark and the FAA is investigating.
The Port Authority said the pilot had to turn around about 10 minutes after taking from Newark due to engine failure and the plane reportedly had smoke in the cockpit.
Passengers and crew members were safely evacuated using the plane’s slides.
