A Berkeley Township man accused of fatally shooting an Ocean County family’s dog is facing multiple charges.
Authorities say the French bulldog, named Ruby, was dropped off at a home on Lynford Court to be watched by 56-year-old Jeffery Lentz earlier this month.
Investigators say Lentz shot the dog, leaving a bullet lodged in its jawbone. The events leading to the shooting were not immediately clear.
The dog later succumbed to its injuries, according to police. Lentz was arrested and remanded to the Ocean County Jail pending court proceedings.
The charges against him include animal cruelty, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose and possession of a large capacity magazine.
