Person rescued from 40-foot-high catwalk at Millstone arts center
Crews from multiple fire departments worked together Saturday night to rescue a person from a 40-foot-high catwalk at a performing arts center in Millstone. Millstone Township firefighters were called to the theater at Millstone Township Middle School around 5:30 p.m. for reports of a medical emergency on a catwalk about 40 feet above the ground. The patient was unable to get down on their own. “Access was evaluated, and based off this requiring removal down through two separate levels via a rope system,” the fire department said in a social media post. Firefighters worked with EMS crews to begin providing medical care to the patient on the catwalk while setting up anchor points to secure the equipment needed to lower the person to safety. Because of the complexity of the rescue, additional firefighters were called in from Englishtown and Monroe Township. The patient was placed in a specialized rescue stretcher and lowered from the catwalk to a mezzanine area below, then carried down a steep staircase to ground level, the department said. The patient was transported to a local hospital. “Members worked efficiently and demonstrated great interagency operability to complete this incident safely,” firefighters said on social media. “Incidents like this are high risk, low frequency and require extensive training to carry out. All personnel operating should be commended for their actions.”
