The cold weather is setting up perfect conditions for the Knickerbocker Ice Festival in Rockland Lake State Park.
Before refrigeration, huge chunks of ice were once taken from the lake and sold across the world.
People can expect igloos and sculptures like an eagle, buffalo, and angel.
The event will also pay tribute to Robert Patalano, who died last year. He was well known for his ice sculptures and organized the festival from 2007 to 2014. The event organizer believes he's still watching over them.
"I mean, come on, how could you not believe that there's something looking after us right now. This is like the most beautiful backdrop to an ice festival you could possibly ask for. So, I'm very grateful to him," said Timothy Englert, Knickerbocker Ice Festival organizer.
There will be a special fire and ice tower, too.
