Pedestrian struck, seriously injured while crossing street in Stamford
A person was seriously injured after they were hit by a car on Washington Boulevard overnight Sunday, police say.
It happened near 1201 Washington Blvd. at 2:39 a.m.
Police say a Chevy Express Van was heading south when it struck a pedestrian that was attempting to cross Washington Boulevard from the east side of the street to the west side. The van did not stop and kept going.
The 73-year-old Stamford resident suffered very serious and possibly life-threatening injuries. They were taken to Stamford Hospital.
Police say the person was not in the crosswalk when they were struck.
The van was seen on traffic cameras shortly after the collision and located a short time later in a nearby parking lot.
Police say its owner, 24-year-old Jean Vieux of Stamford admitted he was driving the vehicle and struck something but did not provide any other details.
Vieux was charged with evading responsibility and is being held on bond.
