Despite less-than-ideal weather, dog owners and their furry companions turned out for a good cause during the Paws Walk 5K at Belmont Lake State Park.

The event was hosted by Long Island Cares and Baxter's Pet Pantry.

Participants and their four-legged friends took part in the walk to support a larger mission: collecting pet food and monetary donations to stock the pantry so local pet owners can keep their furry family members happy and healthy.

“Pets need food too," said Dawn Needelman of Huntington, "People shouldn’t deny their pets because they are food insecure these days."

With the holidays right around the corner, Long Island Cares expects more families to turn to the pantry for a little extra help.
