A Patterson man accused of assaulting a police officer has been arrested.
The acting sheriff says Paul J. Cheque-Tacuri was stopped Saturday morning for speeding.
A deputy was investigating whether he was driving drunk when the man's car rolled backward into the police car.
The deputy tried to arrest the man when he allegedly fought and injured the officer.
Authorities say the man then fled the scene but was later arrested at his home.
He's currently at the Putnam County correctional facility.
