Young adults who are struggling with homelessness have a new safe haven to call home in Dutchess County.
'Pat's Place' at 57 South Clinton St. in Poughkeepsie is the county's first transitional living facility for young adults.
The space created by Hudson River Housing will provide a safe space for people 18 to 24 years old.
The home was named after 40-year veteran Hudson River Housing staff member Pat Kellett.
The massive furnished home has 12 private bedrooms, with a shared kitchen, living room and a recreational space.
People at risk of losing their home or trying escape dangerous domestic violence situations can seek refuge through the program.
“This supportive housing, like all of our youth programs, will act as a haven, a true source of safety, care, and, most importantly, love for Dutchess County’s most vulnerable individuals. I cannot wait to see Pat’s Place flourish as we continue to fight to end youth homelessness” said Christa Hines, president and CEO of Hudson River Housing.
House guests can live there for up to two years and receive spiritual, mental, physical and emotional help.
On-site staff members will be there to help residents plan their next steps in life.
They will also be there to respond to emergencies, run group workshops and activities as well as cook nutritional meals.
Funding for Pat's Place comes from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, HOME American Rescue Plan through Dutchess County and more,
Those who would like to donate can contribute to Pat’s Place's Amazon Registry.
You can learn more about the housing program by calling 845-337-4407 ext. 406 or visit hudsonriverhousing.org.
