Just months after being released from federal prison, multi-platinum Paterson rapper Fetty Wap is officially ready for his second act.
In an exclusive interview with News 12, the "Trap Queen" star opened up about his highly anticipated return to the stage, what he missed most about New Jersey, and why keeping pride in his hometown remains the driving force behind his music.
Fetty Wap, born Willie Maxwell II, was released from federal custody earlier this year after serving time on drug trafficking charges. Now, his focus is entirely back on the music and his fans.
His upcoming, jam-packed summer tour kicks off next month, and the hip-hop icon chose New Jersey for his very first stop, with a massive opening night scheduled in Atlantic City.
Throughout his rapid rise to global stardom in the mid-2010s, Maxwell never hid his roots, frequently shouting out Paterson and "Zoo Gang" in his tracks. Despite his recent legal battles and time away, that local pride hasn't wavered. If anything, it’s grown stronger.
During his interview, the rapper emphasized the absolute importance of remembering where you come from, especially when navigating heavy personal and professional setbacks.
"No matter what you go through, or where life takes you, you can't forget the streets that raised you," Maxwell said. "Paterson made me who I am. I want the kids back home to know that you can stumble, you can make mistakes, but you keep moving forward. You never let go of that pride."
The upcoming tour marks a major milestone in the rapper’s career comeback, promising fans a mix of his classic diamond-certified hits alongside brand-new, unreleased music influenced by his recent life experiences.
Complete tour dates, venue announcements, and ticket information for next month's opening night in Atlantic City are expected to be dropped on the artist's official platforms in the coming days.
