A Paterson-based school bus company, A-1 Elegant Tours, has been banned from operating in the state for at least a decade and fined $250,000 after pleading guilty to falsifying government documents.
The company's owner, Shelim Khalique, was charged five years ago.
According to the New Jersey Attorney General's Office, A-1 Elegant Tours failed to conduct background checks or drug tests on drivers and attempted to cover it up.
The company allegedly passed its buses and employees to Shelim Khalique's brother's company, American Star, which will be monitored by the state.
