The Parkchester subway station’s escalator will be down for more than a year as renovations are underway to make the station more friendly to those with disabilities.
Construction crews began the removal of the escalator on Friday, which will be out of service until February 2025. The purpose is to make the station ADA-accessible and easier to navigate for all people.
Residents say they’re frustrated with the change, and that it’s a major inconvenience – especially for those entering on Westchester Avenue going to the Manhattan-bound platform where the removal is taking place.
