A new report from the Anti-Defamation League shows that New York leads the nation in antisemitic incidents, with more than 1,400 reported statewide in 2024.
A majority of the hate crimes happened in Brooklyn.
For Rafael Hasid, owner of the Park Slope restaurant Miriam, who experienced it firsthand — it still comes as a shock.
From vandalism to assaults and harassment, NYPD data revealed 350 antisemitic incidents across the city in 2024.
A total of 119 of those happened in Brooklyn, and 25 of the incidents were in Williamsburg.
“I couldn't really believe it,” said Hasid. “New York City, you know, so advanced, so diverse.”
Hasid said he first read the report in an Israeli newspaper.
“I don't think violence or vandalism is the right way for anything,” said Hasid. “Not for Jewish people or against Jewish people or against any other person. What good does it make, where does it get you?”
With Brooklyn having the largest Jewish population in New York, he’s hopeful for more harmony in the near future.
