A man from Orange is accused of hitting an unmarked police car and leading police on a chase in Newark.

Wolchney Gardere, 26, is being held in the Essex County Jail.

State police stopped Gardere Monday night on West Market Street.

He put the vehicle in reverse and struck an unmarked police car before driving away, police said.

Gardere then crashed into several vehicles during the pursuit, according to police.

He ran from the scene but was arrested moments later, police said.
