A fire tore through a home Tuesday in Pearl River, officials say.
It happened around 2 p.m. on Griffith Place near William Street.
"We were thinking it was looking like it was going to storm and when we turned down Gilbert (Avenue), we saw that it was a fire. We were like, 'Oh my God, that looks like it's on our street'," says Logan Hoffman, who lives nearby.
Hoffman was on his way home from school when he saw the smoke coming from his neighbor's home.
"It was all black smoke and flames," says Hoffman.
Officials with the Pearl River Fire Department were able to quickly get to the scene. They say it took about an hour to get the fire under control.
"It sounded like an explosion, and I ran to the dining room window. I saw their deck in flames and then it caught on to the house," says Kathleen Boyle, who lives down the street.
Officials say the home was significantly damaged.
Police rescued two dogs from inside the house, officials say.
