The city of Norwalk has a new addition: a community recreation center. It's located on South Main Street in South Norwalk.
On Thursday, residents, community leaders and city and state officials celebrated its completion with a ribbon-cutting.
The Community Recreation Center is for people of all ages, and officials said it represents a significant investment in the health, wellness, and quality of life for Norwalk residents.
The building costs $6 million, funded in part by a $2 million federal grant secured by Rep. Jim Himes in 2023.
"I lost my best friend to gun violence in the city. When the YMCA closed down, we didn't have nothing left," said State Rep. Kadeem Roberts, (D) Norwalk.
This summer, there will be a limited number of programs at the center. All of the programs will be available this fall.
