        Officials: Off-duty Teaneck fire captain rescues child from icy water

        Officials say that Capt. Christopher Connolly was off-duty and walking to his daughter’s school when he heard someone falling through the ice.

        A Teaneck fire captain is being hailed as a hero for rescuing a child from icy water.
        Officials say that Capt. Christopher Connolly was off-duty and walking to his daughter’s school when he heard someone falling through the ice. They say the child was almost fully underwater and hanging on to the ice shelf. Officials say that the child’s friends were nearby and trying to help.
        Officials say Connolly was able to get to the child and pull them out of the water. He also called 911 and started providing first aid while first responders arrived.
