Some theater students from Oceanside High School got to learn tips from a Broadway professional on Sunday.
The school's Work-Based Learning program gives students in-person work experience across an array of careers.
The theater students attended “Stranger Things: The First Shadow” on Broadway and then participated in a stage combat session with Rick Sordelet who, with his son, created the combat scenes for the show.
“They never get experience like this. It was incredibly special," said Iris Wiener, Oceanside High School's work-based learning coordinator.
Sordelet said he finds teaching the workshops deeply gratifying.
He didn’t only teach jabs and swings - Sordelet shared words of wisdom.
“If you walk through life looking for joy, giving joy, love is right next to you. and I completely believe that love will overcome hate every time," he told the students.
