For seven years, Maureen Capuzzo has tried to get help for the family’s Crestwood Village 3 home in Manchester after mold was discovered.
Ocean County has now opened an investigation into the 55 and over co-op community.
“Just down here is termite tracks, water damage, which is causing mold. This entire wall, the entire room needs to be gutted out.”
Maureen Capuzzo says her seven-year nightmare began when her late father began feeling sick inside their home in Crestwood Village 3.
“Back in 2018, my dad in this room started drowning in his own lungs,” said Capuzzo.
Capuzzo says tests revealed mold but got no help from management.
“The unit is settling and reveals where the black mold is coming out of it.
Capuzzo says mold-infested insulation was never replaced, just pushed out of the way.
"We asked for the documents, they did not willingly turn them over. We ultimately issued subpoenas to each board member at a meeting,” said Ocean County Commissioner Robert Arace.
“He got treated like he was below the human being factor. And it’s awful to sit back to watch someone treat your father like that when he’s dying,” said Capuzzo.
Crestwood III management told News 12 they would have a response to our questions within a few days.
Commissioner Arace promises a full investigation.
“No one should have to live in conditions that aren’t healthy for their safety and well-being,” said Commissioner Arace.
Capuzzo moved out in May and wants to sell but not until the mold is removed.
Ocean County Commissioner Robert Arace is the liaison to the senior community and says if anyone is experiencing similar issues to contact his office.
