A massive police presence had Melrose neighbors frightened Tuesday afternoon, after reports of gasoline smells coming from a suitcase near a TD Bank.

Police responded to calls of a suspicious package after 2:44 p.m., quickly evacuating nearby shops and closing down 371 East 149th Street.

Shortly after, police told News 12 the suitcase was not threatening and that the scent of gasoline was coming from elsewhere.
