The Detective Endowment Association gifted relatives of Joseph L. Pucciano a headstone after nearly a century of an unmarked grave.
The NYPD say Detective Joseph L. Pucciano joined the forced in 1905 and was best known for taking down some of the most notorious gangsters.
Pucciano died in 1928 and until recently, his body was an unmarked grave at the Green-Wood Cemetery.
The Detective's Endowment Association gifted the family with a new headstone in memory of Pucciano and his work.
Generations of the family were joined by the NYPD to commemorate the moment. Pucciano's grandsons say they couldn't be more thankful.
"Somewhere up there my mom, their dad and our uncle are probably grinning ear to ear because their dad is finally getting recognized," said one of the grandsons.
Pucciano is laid to rest next to his partner, Bernadino Grottano, who was killed in the line of the duty. They both now have headstones.
