November is American Diabetes Month, and New York City doctors and medical professionals are raising awareness about available resources and help.
Medical professionals at Montefiore came together on Monday to raise awareness about the condition and the importance of early diagnosis and treatment.
Dr. Edwin Torres has spearheaded efforts for American Diabetes Month, saying there are resources that can help if you have diabetes or a family history of it. He suggests that good diet and physical activity can prevent or delay the onset of diabetes.
“It’s very important to always when you have a change in your normal health, go and get checked, and know your family history,” said Torres. “It’s important to speak to your provider and let them know ‘hey mom and dad have diabetes, my brother has it’, so we can start doing some checking and find out what’s going on with you.”
